Traditional Hummus

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups cooked garbanzo beans OR 2 (15oz cans)

  • 1-2 small garlic cloves*1

  • 1/2 cup squeezed organic lemon juice

  • 1/3 cup tahini sauce

  • 4 tbsp water

  • 1/4 tsp sea salt

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1/8 tsp of cumin*2 (optional)

Garnish:

  • 2 tbsp toasted pine nuts (optional)

  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)

  • 1/4 tsp chili (optional)

  • 2-3 tbsp olive oil *3

Instructions:

  1. Drain garbanzo beans and rinse well

  2. In a blender or food processor, mix garbanzo beans, water, cumin, garlic, lemon & salt

  3. Blend until smooth

  4. Place in a bowl and add tahini. Mix well

  5. Garnish with olive oil, chili, parsley AND/OR pine nuts

Tips: 

-Use whole wheat pita bread, rice crackers or cut up veggies to dip your hummus!

-Use in place of spread on sandwiches in lieu of mayonnaise

*1. Not adding garlic makes the hummus last longer

*2 . Adding cumin helps with preventing bloating, but also changes the flavor

*3. Olive oil helps bring out the flavor. A must for me :)!
